Admission to the program is a two-step process.
To be formally admitted to the doctoral program in management applicants must be admitted both by the Faculty of Business and Economics and by the central admissions office of the university of Lausanne.


Application deadline

Applications are welcome throughout the year but applicants must secure the support of a supervisor prior to submitting their application file. Applicants must have an MSc degree in management or a closely related discipline. Candidates admitted to the program will start their Ph.D. studies at the earliest possible semester following their application.

Step 1 - Application file for the Faculty of Business and Economics

We advise you to prepare the following documents before you start filling the online application form in one single PDF that you will upload to your application file:

- CV (in English)

- Statement of purpose (in English)

- Bachelor and Master transcripts of grades (translated if not in French or in English)

- Research proposal as per these guidelines (research proposals which do not comply with these guidelines will not be accepted)

Applications must also include at least one reference letter from a professor. Applicants must enter each referee’s institutional e-mail address on the online application form (private e-mail addresses like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo... will not be considered). Each referee will then receive a message indicating how to upload the reference letter.

Prior to contacting the professors please ensure they do research in the area that interests you. Candidates can also view the Ph.D. positions (graduate assistants) currently available on our job portal.


Step 2 - Application file for the admissions office (Service des Immatriculations et Inscriptions)

If your file is accepted by the Faculty of Business and Economics, you will need to submit a second application file to the central admissions office of the university here in order to confirm your eligibility. Files are processed on a first-come first-served basis and only complete files are considered. This procedure can take several months therefore it is crucial that you send your complete file as soon as you are informed that your application is accepted by the Faculty. You will find here the list of documents that you need to submit to the admissions office.

Holders of a Master degree delivered by a foreign university must pay a fee of CHF 200 to cover the administrative costs of preparing and examining their application file. The fee is non-refundable, even in case of withdrawal or when admission is denied.

Applicants holding a degree from UNIL (or currently enrolled at UNIL) follow a simplified procedure for Step 2.
