ObjectivesThis course introduces students to the different dimensions of management of different types of organizations (e.g., private companies, public organizations, NGOs). Students shall also become aware of the broader social environment in which organizations operate. At the end of the course, students should have acquired a solid knowledge of the historical and social context in which today’s corporations are embedded, and be knowledgeable of various concepts, theories and tools which shall give a better understanding and chance of appropriate execution of management. ContentsThe course is divided into several parts. First, we will define the notion of “management” and show that it is necessary to develop an adequate understanding of the environment (at various levels) in order to successfully manage an organization in today’s globalized society. Then, we will turn our attention to the means by which a company can create value for its shareholders, clients, and employees, through some of its key functions: strategy, marketing, innovation, operations and people and project management which are transversal to the other functions.
