ObjectivesEmpirical research in Management and Economics provides the opportunity to conduct an empirical research project. ContentsEmpirical research in Management and Economics is targeted at 3rd year Bachelor students in Management and Economics. The course allows students to apply competences that they acquired in their respective Bachelor programs. The course is divided in two sections. The development part (Monday 10-12) discusses how to criticise a paper, how to present research results, and how to write a research paper. This part also provides time to work on the project in class, with your colleagues. The laboratory part (Monday 14-16) teaches all the tools that you need in order to elaborate your research projects. Course participants demonstrate their ability to craft original empirical research concerning a question of their choice. The empirical project is elaborated in groups of up to 3 members. Projects use readily available data from NLSY or Panel Suisse des Ménages, but other datasources can be used. Empirical research in Management and Economics is offered in French. Participants are welcome to use English for discussions, presentations, and writing their paper. Course participants wishing to do so will have the opportunity to participate to the Research Data Challenge. ReferencesWe will take a look at a series of recent papers on well-being, crime, wages, family, discrimination, and social interactions. We will learn how to look at the results of these papers in a critical fashion and use them as a source of inspiration for our own empirical research projects.
