The aim of the coroporate sustainability course is to help students:

    • understand how differing definitions of CSR and CS impact action,
    • evaluate organizational action for sustainability,
    • recognize the barriers to action, the tensions and dilemmas,
    • identify solutions to overcome them and
    • understand the singularity of leadership for sustainability.

The course will be highly interactive and class sessions will include a mixture of debates, group work and lectures. We will begin with the question, what is the role of business in society? Throughout the semester, we will explore two very different answers to this question: social entrepreneurship and sustainability initiatives in large multinational companies.

We will use case studies, articles and videos. A bibliography for the semester will be provided in the first session.

Please note that for pedagogical reasons the registration for this class will be limited. Students who are interested can apply by responding to the questionnaire posted on the Moodle site for the course, the earlier the better, and at the latest by Wednesday 18 September at 12h00 (midday). No late applications will be accepted.

It is extremely important to attend the first session of the course on Tuesday 17 September (12h30 - 16h00). If you have already sent in an application but, after the first session, you no longer want to take the course, please let me know as quickly as possible.

Plagiarism of any sort - the use of others' material without proper citation and referencing - will be treated with the highest severity and, following University regulations, can lead to the full exclusion of the student from the Swiss University system.
