Objectifs

  • The objective of the course “Financing Analysis” is to bring a thorough understanding of the key issues revolving around a company, its environment and stakeholders through the eyes of a financial analyst.
  • Going through several business cases and presentations, the course will bring to students several tools and techniques to evaluate a company and its business environment in order to reach a potential investment decision.
  • The content of the course is principally based on relevant sections of the CFA® curriculum and on the lecturer’s professional experience as analyst, asset manager, investor, and client.

Weeks 1-5: the global environment

  • Regulatory analysis
  • Industry analysis
  • Economic analysis
  • Market analysis
  • Sustainable analysis

Weeks 6-9: nuts, bolts and techniques

  • Information from financial statements and beyond
  • From analytical tools & techniques to financial modelling
  • From financial modelling to investment recommendation
  • Quality of earnings and financial statements

Weeks 10-12: industry specific

  • Analysis of insurances and pension funds
  • Analysis of banks and financial companies
  • Analysis of technological companies

Weeks 13-14: investment timing and pitfalls

  • Technical analysis and investment timing
  • Behavioural analysis and investment biases

Références

Slides content, assigned readings and preparation material shall contain 100% of the preparation material needed for case studies and presentations assigned through the semester, as well as final exam (standard and retake)
