Objectives

The objective of the course is to introduce basic operations management techniques and link them with real manufacturing and service industry cases. Emphasis is on practice, hence the name of the course Practical Operations Management.

Contents

The course presents key operations management (OM) techniques related to operational principles, layout design, quality management, inventory and supply chain management, linked with numerous cases of real turnaround projects in companies over the past years. The cases demonstrate how the techniques learned are at the core of practical operations management both in production and service industries. External visitors from industry are also presenting their view on practical operations management.

There are two mid-term exams, each valued as 35% of the total grade:

  • 1st mid-term exam in Session 7: 2h exam based on sessions 1-6.
  • 2nd mid-term exam in Session 13: 2h exam based on sessions 7-12.
