The aim of this course is to discuss some of the major transitions that occurred in the course of evolution. The general idea is that students will be able to work on a topic they selected themselves -as there has been enough learning by heart in the cursus…..

Students (in groups of 2 or 3) will identify a specific topic of interest, read the relevant scientific literature, and make a short presentation. There will then be a discussion between all participants of the course. The discussion will be lead by the students presenting and myself. Examples of topics that have previously been chosen by students include: Evolutionary explanation for the evolution of cooperation, speciation, the resolution of genomic conflict, the evolution of sex chromosomes, the moulding of senescence, and the evolution of sexes.
