Health Information Systems

Research seminar on Understanding the potential of Connected Health – the case of the Leanmbh project, by Prof.Frédéric Adam, University College Cork

Abstract
The talk will concentrate on a detailed presentation of the on-going Leanbh project which is aimed at developing and testing a home based solution for the early detection of pre-eclampsia and other blood pressure related disorders in expecting mothers. More generally, it will consider broad range of issues which are inherent in the concept of connected health with a specific focus on the application of mobile computing and decision support ideas into the clinical environment.

Within the Irish Centre for Fetal and Neonatal Translational Research (INFANT research centre), Frédéric Adam is collaborating with Louise Kenny to develop a roadmap for perinatal health information systems research. This incorporates investigating mobile computing and Big Data Analytics in the delivery of key healthcare services to specific segments of the population, such as expectant mothers, diabetes sufferers, populations in third world countries and other extreme cases of reliance on medical services. In collaboration with UCC colleagues Dr Simon Woodworth and Dr Ciara Heavin, Frédéric is developing and leading INFANT’s Connected Health research thematic area.
