Alex Osterwalder spoke to Googlers in Mountain View on February 22, 2011 about our book “Business Model Generation: A Handbook for Visionaries, Game Changers, and Challengers”.

Lift11 is a three-day conference about current and emerging usage of digital technologies such as online communities, social media and casual games. Participants come to better understand the challenges and opportunities presented by digital technologies, and meet the people who drive these innovations.

A session is dedicated to “Re-organization: new workplaces, new business models, social organizations”, with a talk by Alex on Business Model Generation.

Although the stressful nature of high risk exposure software projects and the adverse repercussions of stress on project participants and performance have long been recognized, there is still little research on the subject. This work-in-progress presentation presents a study that builds upon two foundations ’ the cognitive-transactional theory of stress and the concept of software project risk exposure ’ to propose a model of software project risk drivers as software project manager stressors and coping resources. The model posits that some software project risk drivers ’ core project characteristics and project objectives ’ play the role of stressors and that other risk drivers ’ project environment characteristics ’ play the role of coping resources. The model further suggests that software project managers are faced with both chronic stress and acute stress, which have different antecedents. This paper broadens current understanding of the role of software project risk drivers; it also contributes to knowledge on software project management by focusing on the emotional components this activity.

Suzanne Rivard est professeur à HEC Montréal, titulaire de la Chaire de gestion stratégique des technologies de l’information, membre de la Société royale du Canada. Elle esst Senior Editor, MIS Quarterly Theory and Review et du Journal of the Association for Information Systems. Ses recherches portent notamment sur l’outsourcing, la gestion de projets, le réingénierie des processus, l’alignement stratégique entre business, technologies, organisation et leadership.
