Workshop on business model innovation at IMD partnering with Veolia (news) on April 4th, invited by Prof. Cyril Bouquet.

After the Cyril’s intro on the “Deep dive” approach, the workshop aims at learning about and applying a business model canvas to describe, challenge, and design business models. The second topic covers design thinking and the “managing as designing” paradigm. Several powerful examples of business model innovation and industry changes are explored, such as Nespresso, Cirque du Soleil, Nintendo Wii, Apple iPod/iTunes, SunEdison, and many more. The attendees can explore and prototype business models using design thinking and customer development to boost future growth.

The importance of the service economy is widely recognized. New information technology, Internet, social networks and mobile services have redefined the ways of conducting business, providing new e-services, new customer experiences, new work practices, and new business models.This introductory session presents principles suggested by design thinking but applied to business service design. The session introduces concepts, frameworks, and tools for designing or renovating services. The session consists of talks, case studies and group co-design exercises. Upon completion this first session, the participants will have a general understanding of the current state and trends in service design, and be aware of design tools (storytelling, hand-sketching, brainstorming and prototyping).
